Scuba Schools International
SSI
A large recreational network with a digital-first materials model and strong Australian representation.
SSI is the second most widely represented recreational agency in Australia, with a comparable range of recreational, professional and technical programmes.
Its structural difference is that SSI certifications are issued through affiliated training centres rather than to independent instructors, which means SSI instructors teach under a centre rather than freelancing.
Its materials are digital-first and included in the course, and its Extended Range programmes provide a technical pathway alongside the recreational range.
| Full name | Scuba Schools International |
|---|---|
| Programs | Open Water Diver · Advanced Adventurer · Diver Stress & Rescue · Divemaster · Instructor Training · Extended Range technical programmes · Freediving · Rebreather programmes |
| Strengths | Strong Australian presence · Digital-first materials included in course fees · Flexible specialty structure · Centre-based quality control |
Because SSI professionals are affiliated with a training centre rather than operating independently, the centre carries more direct responsibility for standards.
This is a genuine structural difference from agencies where instructors can teach independently, though in practice most Australian instructors of any agency work through a centre.
