Enriched Air Nitrox
Diving with elevated oxygen to extend no-decompression limits — the most commonly taken specialty.
Enriched Air Nitrox is a breathing mixture with a higher oxygen fraction than air, typically 32 or 36 percent, and less nitrogen as a result.
Less nitrogen means slower nitrogen loading, which extends no-decompression limits at a given depth. On a repetitive multi-dive day — a liveaboard, or a wreck trip with three dives — the practical difference is substantial.
The course covers oxygen exposure limits, maximum operating depth, analysing your own cylinder and setting a dive computer correctly. It is short, largely theoretical, and among the most useful specialties a recreational diver can hold.

Nitrox does not let you go deeper — it does the opposite. The higher oxygen fraction imposes a shallower maximum operating depth because of oxygen toxicity limits.
It also does not eliminate decompression obligation, reduce air consumption, or prevent fatigue in any demonstrated way. What it reliably does is extend no-decompression time at recreational depths.
The single non-negotiable habit the course teaches is analysing your own gas before diving it, and recording the result.
A cylinder labelled 32 percent that is actually 40 percent changes your maximum operating depth significantly. Nobody else's analysis is a substitute for your own.
Recreational enriched air training covers mixes up to around 40 percent oxygen used as a bottom gas.
Advanced Nitrox is a technical course dealing with high-oxygen decompression gases and oxygen-clean equipment. A centre offering ordinary EAN32 does not automatically provide Advanced Nitrox support.
