Advanced Nitrox
High-oxygen decompression gases and oxygen-clean equipment — a different capability from recreational Nitrox.
Advanced Nitrox is not ordinary recreational Nitrox. It involves high-oxygen decompression gases, up to and including 100 percent oxygen, and the oxygen-clean equipment those gases require.
A centre offering ordinary EAN32 does not automatically provide Advanced Nitrox support. Recreational enriched air needs a compressor, a blending system and an analyser; high-oxygen support needs oxygen-clean cylinders, oxygen-compatible regulators and staff trained to handle them.
For a diver planning technical training, this is one of the first capability questions to resolve, because everything downstream depends on it.
Oxygen at high partial pressure and high concentration reacts violently with hydrocarbons. A cylinder or regulator with ordinary compressor oil residue can ignite when filled with high-oxygen gas.
Oxygen cleaning removes those contaminants and is followed by using oxygen-compatible lubricants and components. It is not a formality and it is not something a centre does casually.
These distinguish a facility that can support decompression gases from one that only fills recreational Nitrox.

- stage cylinder hire, oxygen clean
- analyser availability for divers

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my recreational cylinder for decompression gas?
Not unless it has been oxygen cleaned and fitted with oxygen-compatible components. This is a safety requirement, not a preference.
Why does a centre refuse to fill my cylinder with oxygen?
Because filling an uncleaned cylinder with high-oxygen gas is a genuine fire risk. The refusal is the centre behaving correctly.
