Adelaide Scuba serves South Australian divers from a base near Glenelg, in a state whose headline diving is scattered across hundreds of kilometres and where a metropolitan centre functions largely as the launching point.

South Australia's flagship attractions are not in Adelaide. The giant cuttlefish aggregation is at Whyalla, the leafy seadragons are on the Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsulas, the cave diving is at Mount Gambier, and the sea lions are off Port Lincoln. What Adelaide provides is training, equipment, servicing, fills and the organisation that gets divers to those places.

Local diving exists and is better than its reputation. The Glenelg wrecks — a dredge, a barge and assorted structures deliberately sunk offshore — provide convenient boat diving with blue devils, schooling bullseyes and sponge growth. Port Noarlunga's jetty-accessed reef is an aquatic reserve and the state's most-used training site.

South Australian water runs roughly thirteen to twenty-two degrees, which puts it firmly in temperate territory. A seven millimetre suit or semi-dry is standard, hoods are normal in winter, and the weighting implications are significant for anyone arriving from warmer water.

For divers planning to visit Whyalla in the cuttlefish season or to work toward cave qualification at Mount Gambier, an Adelaide centre is where the preparation happens — equipment, exposure protection, fills and advice.

Worth confirming: cylinder visual inspection and hydrostatic testing availability and turnaround; Nitrox and any technical gas; which brands are serviced in-house; whether technical training is offered and under which agency; and whether organised trips run to Whyalla, the Fleurieu or Mount Gambier. For cold-water newcomers, ask about exposure protection advice and hire sizing.

South Australian divers should plan exposure protection around Whyalla rather than around Adelaide. The cuttlefish aggregation is winter diving in thirteen to sixteen degree water, and how long you can stay in determines how much of the behaviour you actually see.
