Brisbane serves a large resident diving population. Unlike Cairns, this market is not primarily built around international reef tourism.
Divers use Brisbane centres for the full range of ongoing support: Open Water courses, continuing education, gear purchases, regulator servicing, cylinder testing, air fills, Nitrox, dive clubs, weekend diving and technical training.
Moreton Bay provides the local diving itself — the Tangalooma wrecks, Flinders Reef, Curtin Artificial Reef and, further out, Flat Rock and Shag Rock off North Stradbroke Island.
This is also where most of Queensland's technical diving capability sits, though it should be verified centre by centre rather than assumed.

A metropolitan centre is judged on different criteria from a reef operator. Trip quality matters less than whether the business can keep you diving all year.

The Tangalooma wrecks are a set of deliberately scuttled vessels in shallow, sheltered water off Moreton Island, which makes them accessible to newer divers and excellent for snorkelling.
Flinders Reef offers the highest coral diversity in the Moreton Bay region, and the sites off North Stradbroke Island produce reliable large-animal encounters through the warmer months.
