Northern Tasmania faces Bass Strait, which gives it a different character from the east coast and the Tasman Peninsula — shallower, more exposed to different weather patterns and with a significant wreck history.
The region supports a smaller local diving community centred on Launceston, Devonport and the north coast, along with access toward the Bass Strait islands.
It is the least documented of Tasmania's diving regions and the one where local knowledge matters most for finding worthwhile sites.
